POST OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS: FUE
Medications
Only use medications prescribed by BHR, any alternative medication must be confirmed with BHR before being taken.
Pain Killer: Two every six hours or as prescribed by the clinic; do not take aspirin or anti inflammatory medication for at least 3 days to avoid excessive bleeding. Anti-biotic: To be taken the night of the operation, the next morning and the following night
Recipient Area Post Operation Care: FUE Technique Day 1 until complete: Use the sterilised water/saline spray every two hours on the recipient area and gently wipe off any residue below/around the grafted area. Continue until the bottle is finished.
Days 2 to 7 Post Operation: Lather the Betadine shampoo in your hands or spray directly on to the grafted area, gently "pat" onto the grafts but do not massage. To wash off apply minimum water pressure using a cup of warm water to rinse off the shampoo. Wash once a day.
Days 8 to 14 Post Operation: Apply the Betadine shampoo but with gentle circular massage to the scalp and now use normal water pressure. You may now also use a mild “baby” shampoo after the Betadine. Wash once or twice a day.
Donor Area Post Operation Care: FUE Technique
Day 1 to 14: Apply the aloe-vera based cream to the donor area without rubbing too hard, morning and evening.
Day 2-7: Follow the same washing instructions as in the recipient
Day 8 to 14: Follow the same washing instructions as in the recipient.
Important Information
Sleeping/Rest Position: The ideal position is to place your head and upper body is at a 45 degree angle, using pillows to prop yourself up; this will help to reduce the effects of swelling and can be maintained for 3 days post operative.
Swelling: Swelling is a side effect of a hair transplant post operative and will reduce naturally over a period of three to four days. Sleeping position, the use of an ice pack and no long walks will help to reduce the effects.
Shock loss: This is rare but is a side effect of a hair transplant and can occur in the recipient and the donor areas; if you have a concern please contact BHR.
Alcohol, Smoking, Sexual Activity: Avoid alcohol, smoking and sexual activity for the first three days post operative.
Exercise: 1. FUE Technique: Refrain from heavy lifting or exercise for 14 days
Sun: Keep the recipient area covered and avoid direct sun exposure for the first 15 days, but care should be taken for the first 6 months to not burn your scalp.
Swimming Pool: Avoid chlorinated water for the first three months, natural or salt/sea water gentle swimming after one month can be resumed.
Blood Loss/Infection: Blood loss is inevitable during and immediately following the procedure. If bleeding continues apply continuous pressure to the bleeding point with a clean swab for 20 minutes; in the event this persists, please contact the doctor. On very rare occasions transplant may become infected, ensure you do not bump your head and use only clean products; if this occurs please contact the doctor.
Numbness: This can be due to the severing of the small nerves during the procedure; this is nothing to be concerned about and temporary; in some cases it may last a period of a couple of months as the nerve receptors repair themselves.
